Isn’t It Time You Went On A Media Diet?

How much of your day do you spend watching TV?
The average person watches 4 ½ hours of TV every day. Every day!
Imagine what you could do with an extra 4 ½ hours a day.
A year ago my husband and I decided to go on a complete media diet. No TV, no newspaper, no radio news.
Actually, it was at exactly the same time we resolved to move to the Caribbean by Easter 2008, and probably the biggest contributor to us actually making it. In fact, we made it weeks before Easter!
Hand on heart, going on a media diet is one of the best decisions I ever made.
It’s been liberating in so many ways.
Here’s why:
- You stop being fed all the contrived, media propaganda that has you believing the world is a big, bad place. The media is self-perpetuating doom at it’s worst. It makes you spend too much time focusing on things that in no way enhance your life.
- You suddenly find yourself with dozens more hours each week to focus on the things you find truly enlightening. The things you feel passionate about. The things that feed your soul and your brain. Start using your TV time to learn about something you’re interested in that will positively improve your life.
- You have time to actually think about what your goals are, and then achieve them.
- You have time to spend on your own personal and business development. Do you constantly feel like you have no time to learn about marketing, SEO and other essential skills for your online business? Imagine what you could do with a couple of extra hours every day.
- You have more time to listen to your favourite music, or read books. Much more uplifting!
- You have more time to spend interacting with your family in a meaningful way.
I think this guy sums it up pretty well:
What do you think? Are you up for the challenge?

Its interesting to go through your site that on average every person is watching 4 1/2 hours/day and they are wasting their time. In these hours if you concentrate on your business and start learning on SEO strategies it will help in boosting your business.
Hi Leigh,
Thanks for a great post. I made a new years resolution to severly limit the time I watch tv. I record programmes I really dont want to miss and then limit myself to watching just these. I found that I spend more time reading and listening to music and have actually found time for the hobbies that I used to enjoy but in recent times have had ‘no time’ for.
My businesses, family and general mental state have all benefitted from the change and I’d recommed that everyone should give it a try.
Fabulous Justine! It’s great to hear that you’re feeling the benefit already.
