Become a Website Designer
By Leigh Hunt • Category: Internet Based Business IdeasDo you have strong creative flair? Can you take a vision and turn it into a reality? Do you like to keep up with new technology?
Yes, yes and yes?! Then, you could become a Website Designer and work from home.
These days even the smallest of businesses recognise the benefits of having an online presence. However, small businesses tend not to have the budget to hire a large design consultancy, which means a growing demand for small scale Web Designers who work from home.
As a work from home Website Designer, you may be hired to build a website from scratch, including logo design and creation of a corporate identity. Or, as is increasingly the case, you may be hired to update and develop an existing website.
As a Website Designer, not only will you need well-honed graphic design skills, you’ll also need to be good at problem solving and have the ability to work in a logical and analytical way.
When you first liaise with a client you’ll need to be able to take a brief and create a design proposal for your client. You’ll need to be able to demonstrate excellent project management skills and deliver projects on time. Referrals are an excellent way to win business in this industry so delivering good service is key.
The Internet is forever evolving, so as a Website Designer you must keep up-to-date with all the latest developments and constantly learn new skills and technologies.
But you’ll need more than just IT skills, you’ll also need to be able to sell yourself and seek out clients. You’ll also need to become familiar with other business skills such as marketing and accounting.
You won’t need much to get started as a Web Designer. You’ll need to invest in a good quality PC or Apple Mac, and a range of office and web design software, such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop from Adobe. In fact, software packages will probably be your largest investment.
